Meet Samantha
Behind Evolution Equestrian is Samantha, whose life has been shaped by barns, arenas, and a deep curiosity about how tack, training, and care truly affect the horse.
Her journey began with childhood pony rides and 4-H days alongside her Appaloosa gelding, and later grew through years spent in the jumper ring and as a certified riding instructor. Horses have never been a phase — they’ve always been the constant.
Today, Samantha spends her time with her Percheron x Thoroughbred gelding, Pi, continuing to build better horsemanship through Working Equitation, local clinics, and thoughtful schooling rides. Even now has he has moved into retirement, they stil enjoy each other's company.
Many riders in the Comox Valley recognize Samantha from her years managing another local tack store between 2015 and 2021. When the time came to take the reins and build something of her own, Evolution Equestrian began online — run out of a laundry room and garage — before growing into its current storefront at 5352 C North Island Hwy, Courtenay.
That growth was never about becoming bigger. It was about becoming more intentional: creating a space grounded in experience, transparency, and care for both horse and rider.

A True Family-Run Business
Most days, Evolution Equestrian feels a bit like a family living room — just with more saddle pads. You’ll often find Samantha helping customers, her son creating cheerful chaos and “helping” wherever he can, and her husband stepping in on sick days or tackling the never-ending tack shop honey-do list.
The business is genuinely family-run, built around the same values they bring to their own barn life: patience, honesty, hard work, and showing up when it matters.
And where Samantha goes, DeHavilland is never far behind. This beloved tack store dog has been part of Evolution Equestrian since just eight weeks old, greeting customers with a wagging tail and politely insisting on belly rubs.
She’s more than a mascot — she’s family, and often the first friendly face you’ll meet at the door.
