Consignment - Gently Used - 5" - Style 402
This is a solid option if your horse is in that in-between stage, still figuring out neck reining but not quite ready to give up direct rein cues. Reinsman calls this a Stage B, or transitional, bit. That fits: it lets you use one rein at a time when your horse needs a clearer ask, while they get comfortable with you riding more off their neck.
A quick note on the name, because it trips people up. “Argentine” bits sometimes get called snaffles because of the jointed mouthpiece, but with 6" shanks this one works as a leverage bit. When you pick up the reins, pressure goes to the mouth, the chin (through the curb strap), and a little to the poll. A two-piece mouth with shanks can feel softer and more familiar to a horse coming out of a snaffle than a solid-mouth curb, but it still asks more than a plain snaffle does. Light hands make all the difference here.
The mouthpiece is sweet iron, which naturally develops a little rust over time. That’s normal, and lots of horses like the taste. It tends to encourage them to soften, mouth the bit, and stay wet in the mouth.
