Tack Tip Tuesday: Discover Trekking Riding Skirt

As we move into the heart of our wet, west coast winters you will rarely find me without my Discovery Trekking Riding Skirt. After trying countless products for the best way to keep warm and dry while riding outside beside hauling to an indoor, this one has been my favorite and even better has actually kept me dry!

A few reasons why I love this riding skirt:

  • Locally made! We are lucky to have such an amazing company on Vancouver Island. Discovery Trekking also makes custom, made just for you, Westcoast-lifestyle clothing and outerwear. They can tailor our patterns to fit any shape or size. Jackets, vests, and clothing from top-of-the-line performance, athletic and activewear fabrics including Polartec's line of innovative fabrics, GORE-TEX, and HyVent to name a few.
  • Actually waterproof. Tried and tested myself, I have ridden in complete downpours yet me, my tack and my horse have stayed nice and dry under this skirt.
  • For safety sake's, as horse's happen, this skirt comes off easy and is completely separate from the horse.
  • This covers me and my tack, unlike quarter sheets, long riding jackets or saddle covers, these skirts cover everything when riding.

Since these skirts can be custom made, they come in a variety of options. They have two lengths of skirt, regular and extended. I like the extended as it is similar to a quarter sheet and covers more of the horse. Three sizes of waist for the rider, which are super adjustable! Plus a variety of fabrics and weights. I personally like the heavy weight (fleece lined) as I tend to use mine more in the winter.
