Shires Highlander Plus 100g Combo Turnout

This one’s for the cooler days and chilly nights, when a sheet isn’t enough but a heavy winter blanket would be overkill. The 100g fill takes the chill off without overheating, and the attached neck (that’s what “combo” means) keeps rain and wind off the neck and withers too.

The outer shell is 1200 denier ripstop. Denier measures how heavy and strong the fabric is, and 1200 is a tough weight that holds up well to fence posts, rough pasture buddies, and general field life. The ripstop weave helps keep a small snag from spreading into a big tear. The seams are taped to help keep water from sneaking through, and the outer is PFC-free, meaning it’s waterproofed without the “forever chemicals” that used to be common in outdoor fabrics.

It’s lined throughout, and the deep shoulder gussets (extra fabric panels at the shoulder) give your horse more room to move and graze without the blanket pulling or rubbing. The neck closes with touch-close straps, so it’s quick to get on and off.

For keeping it in place, there are adjustable clip chest straps, adjustable crossed surcingles under the belly, a removable fillet strap (the cord that runs under the tail to stop the blanket blowing up in the wind), and loops for leg straps if your horse needs them. A large pleated tail flap covers the back end, and reflective detail helps you spot your horse at feeding time on dark winter evenings.

If the weather turns colder, it’s WarmaRug compatible, so you can add a Shires 100g or 200g liner underneath for extra warmth instead of buying another blanket. And it’s machine washable when it needs a cleanup.
