Meet the Shires Tempest Original in a balloon dog print that’s hard not to smile at when you look out at the field. It’s a fun one, but it’s also a hardworking sheet that’s ready for wet days.

It’s a turnout sheet with no fill (0g), so it’s meant to keep your horse dry and out of the wind when a full blanket would be too much. That covers the cool, wet days of spring and fall here on the Island, and horses with a good winter coat who just need a rain layer.

The outer shell is 600 denier ripstop. Denier tells you how heavy and strong the fabric is, and 600 is a solid everyday weight for turnout. Ripstop means it’s woven with a grid pattern that helps stop a small snag from turning into a big tear. It’s waterproof and breathable, so the rain stays out and moisture can still escape, which means your horse is less likely to get damp and sweaty underneath.

The crossed surcingles (the straps that go under the belly) help keep the sheet in place when your horse rolls or moves around. The tail strap adds a bit more stability, and the tail flap keeps wind and rain off the back end.
