This neck rope is made from soft, supple black yacht rope, with a stainless steel ring in the center. It’s simple, and it does the job. Kaitlin’s Country Touch handmakes each one right here on Vancouver Island.
A neck rope sits around the base of your horse’s neck, and you hold it while you ride. Many riders use one to practice bridleless riding. You can learn to steer and slow down with your seat, your legs, and light pressure from the rope, and leave the reins alone. If you’re just starting out, try it with your bridle still on and the reins resting on your horse’s neck. Work in an arena or another enclosed space until you both feel confident.
It also works as a grab strap. It’s something to hold onto if your horse spooks or scoots, or when you’re working on your balance, and you won’t catch your horse in the mouth.
